Ya Know

A huge weakness of mine is just writing things down.  Maybe it's my atrocious handwriting, my terrible typing skills, maybe I'm lazy, clueless or just plain indifferent to the matter.  I guess for blog writing I cannot blame my handwriting.  One of the main reasons why I started a couple blogs is that I thought it would give me some accountability to write since it is viewed publicly... and I was right, people tell me to update all the time..and yet I don't?  So here goes another attempt .. :)

Contrary to the lack of content on my training blog, I really have been training.  Most surely not as much as I should though I don't know if I would ever give myself enough credit.  It is hard to do such a thing when surrounded by such incredible people.  To name a few, Chase Renick [was on the junior national cycling team], Bishop Richey [Ironman triathlete, all wise all knowing], Bob Cannon [Mountain man extraordinaire] Merrill Paxman, Bart Childs, Henk Fisher, Kasey Haws.. and then to my family.  My incredible dad with 20+marathons under his belt including Boston, my mom who has accomplished a marathon and 1/2 iron triathlons, my sister an elite gymnast and triathlete, Brian the concert Pianist, Brent and Kyle a marathon, Kyle and Brad with victories in cycling races.  Talent is abundant.

For those who know me, you know that I have done most of my events haphazardly... with little thought or intention really.  I have been known to say things like "why run unless you get credit for it?" or " I'm a wuss" and so on. I guess this approach was kind of a comfort barrier for me.  Something I did but didn't really do.  I didn't worry about times because, hey I just went out and did it.   I think this is one of the reasons [I have others] why I signed up for the Ironman.  It is great enough that I could not just shrug it off.  I would have to mentally and physically prepare for it.  And I dare to say that as I have trained, I have been rewarded.  Maybe not with a medal or a tick mark but with sore muscles and pain :)  haha but really it is mentally, physically and spiritually rewarding!  And I 'm trying really hard to kick the wuss out of me though I think he is still winning, dang it!

Though as I have been training, I have felt kinda out of place.  I mean I have ran but don't consider myself a runner, I can't swim extremely well and I haven't biked.  So I've often thought well why am I trying to do this.  I mean riding with a bunch of cyclists isn't really the biggest confidence booster, ya know.  But I think things came together for me at my race last Saturday. I gained a lot of confidence in what I am doing and had a lot of fun doing it.  And fun is what it is all about!! Anyway, I am rambling a bit I know but just thought I'd share these Ideas that I've had.

And then for those of you who really care, my work outs for this week have consisted of the following:
Monday: 10 mile run, 30 mile bike Felt Great!  and an ab workout.. did not feel great in fact it didn't feel good at all, in fact  I hate them ..I guess that is why I will never have sexy abs
Tuesday: 12 mile bike flatted without a tube and walked barefoot a mile home and got huge blisters on my heels  ouch!!!  Yes dad I can hear you say, " I told you to put the bike kit on.. " haha I'll never learn, NEVER!
Wednesday: 12 mile run 25 mile bike The bike consisted of a sprint [I chased down a car that was a jerk to kyle] and some wicked hills.  And an ab work out, blah!

*And just a side note the wonderful thing about Redlands is that you either have hills or you have hills.

And I know, I still need to find a place to swim, YIKES!!! I'm going to go check that out right now.  Bye.

It has been awhile

While I have not been blogging, I have been training.  Of course not as much as I should but training none the less.  Here are a few pictures of my latest training activity.  Enjoy.

I did at least 15 slip and slide laps, 10 laps of chasing Kael and Kyle and all this right after my ride with Brad down a windy canyon in the hot hot sun!  I say it was a pretty successful workout.
As you can see, I still have quite a bit of work to do but I am pretty excited about it! :)

demetri martin on swimming.

"To me, swimming is a confusing sport because sometimes you do it for fun but then other times you do it to not die. When I am swimming sometimes I do not know which one it is. I have to go by the outfit. Pants, ut oh! Bathing suit, OK. Naked? We'll see."

515 (race number)

So this morning I finished my first triathlon. It was a sprint tri, reverse order.  So the morning was pretty cool but by the time the run started the weather was pretty nice.  The run was pretty easy, a nice loop.  The transition was slow for me but I didn't really hurry so that's fine.  I am glad I had my tri outfit though.  It was way nice (I probably looked pretty ridiculous but after the swim I realized that I wasn't the only one looking ridiculous).  The bike, again wasn't that bad.. a two loop course with one hill.  It was a pool swim and then it was over.  The swim wasn't bad but by far my weakest area.  I am for sure going to have to get some help and really work on it.  But all in all, it was a fun race.  It was cool to have different events whereas a marathon is a marathon.  Plus the girls were prettier.  Not that that really means anything.  My time was 1:03 so I'll take it for what it is.  Can't wait for the next one!
